Welcome Housemates! Baking with Dr. Eb
Welcome to my kitchen and community! My journey began far away from the world of baking, nestled deep in research labs.
I walked university hallways, collecting degrees like some people collect recipes. My background includes a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Master's in Epidemiology. For a long time. Data points and spreadsheets drove my sense of progress and security.
Then, in 2025, the unexpected happened. Suddenly, federal funding dried up, and my research job disappeared overnight. The loss felt more difficult than I could have anticipated.
During that period of uncertainty, my friends and family saw something I chose to ignore. They reminded me gently that, time and again, I had comforted others with baked goods. Whenever someone faced hardship, I was the one who appeared with a loaf of banana bread or a couple of brownies.
From Metro Atlanta to Nationwide: A New Beginning
Sometimes life offers a loud wake-up call, and that layoff pushed me back to the kitchen, where I truly belonged.
Supported by loved ones who believed in my food, I started a new chapter. My home kitchen quickly turned into a test lab of another kind. Baking allows me to nurture well-being and foster community, values I always treasured as a researcher. Around my table, ideas like the "social determinants of health" come alive through wholesome oats, local honey, or a sprinkle of kindness in a package. I believe every small batch has the spirit of its baker, and every bakery tells a story.
